The game of chance. We are, whether we like it or not, divided by politics, money and generalizing. We are of the same world, but not the same dawn. When there’s the privileged, there’s the less fortunate, who have to face the ignorance of our current generation - and what we fail to realize is that the less fortunate have an equal if not more advanced employment of intellect, intelligence and creativity. Everyone has the potential to be who they want to be. You may not be in the infamous “1%”, but neither are many of the privileged, so nothing is impossible. You have to remember that there are more ants than roaches.
In a particular refugee crisis in Sudan, there is a mother called Atuna, who is 46 with nine children. They had to flee their home in Khartoum, moving from one unsafe house to another. Altuna is forced to think about survival rather than peace and happiness. Her version of tomorrow is drastically different from one like mine. So for people reading this, fight. Fight for those who can’t, because they might be too old, or are tied down by children and it’s too hard to escape their current situation.
Do it for your mother, who didn’t always know where your family’s next meal was from, or constantly doubted the safety of her children. Do it to give your community hope. Inspire women to break the patriarchal system, inspire young boys and girls alike dreaming to be pilots or doctors or environmental conservationists or lawyers. Don’t be the seed. Be the plant that provides more seeds of opportunity for others, no matter how small their dream may be. Be able to say proudly: dear tomorrow, I finally made it.
