02/07/2026 - Creation of STARS Refugee Org

STARS Refugee Organization was officially founded with the mission of supporting refugee students and families through education, service, advocacy, and community engagement. What began as a small initiative has since grown into an international youth-led nonprofit dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities and resources for refugee communities.

04/12/2026 - SS Essay Competition

STARS launched the SS Essay Competition to encourage young people to explore topics related to refugees, global citizenship, and social impact through writing. The competition provided students with a platform to share their perspectives, develop advocacy skills, and raise awareness about issues affecting displaced communities.

04/15/2026 - Southeast Texas Welcome Kit Donation Drive

40 KITS | 680 SUPPLIES

STARS organized its first major regional donation drive across Southeast Texas, collecting essential items for refugee families beginning new lives in the community. Through the generosity of volunteers and donors, hundreds of donations were gathered and distributed to support newcomers during their resettlement journey.

04/16/2026 - 2026/2027 Leadership Team

The first official STARS Leadership Team was established, bringing together dedicated student leaders from around the world. This team laid the foundation for future growth by leading programs, coordinating volunteers, developing new initiatives, and expanding STARS’ impact within refugee communities.

04/21/2026 - CWS Group Volunteering

109 FAMILIES | 153 GROCERY BAGS

STARS volunteers partnered with Church World Service (CWS) to support refugee families through hands-on community service. This opportunity allowed members to directly contribute to local resettlement efforts while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and experiences faced by newcomers.

04/28/2026 - 501(c)(3) Status Approved

STARS officially received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, marking a major milestone in the organization's growth. This achievement strengthened our ability to fundraise, build partnerships, and expand programs that support refugee students and families.

05/20/2026 - Donation Shop Open

The STARS Donation Shop officially launched, offering supporters a new way to contribute to our mission. Proceeds from shop purchases help fund educational resources, community initiatives, and direct support programs benefiting refugee communities.

06/01/2026 - STARS Children's Workbook Initiative 

STARS launched its Children's Workbook Initiative, bringing together student volunteers to create educational workbooks designed for young learners. Featuring activities, stories, cultural exploration, and creative exercises, the project aims to make learning engaging and accessible for children from diverse backgrounds.

06/11/2026 - Spark Packs Rd. 1

50 BACKPACKS | 4390 SUPPLIES

STARS launched the first round of Spark Packs, providing educational and enrichment materials to support refugee children in their academic journeys. This initiative was created to help inspire confidence, curiosity, and learning by delivering resources directly to students who need them most.
