STARS (Standing Together Assisting Refugee Students) is a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young local refugee children as they adjust to a new location, culture, and language. Our goal is to provide academic support through tutoring and mentorships, grow interpersonal connections and meaningful relationships, and offer supplemental assistance such as refresh kits.
Based in Houston, Texas, STARS involves itself in the community through supply-drives, letter writing activities, awareness events, and on-site volunteer work. STARS aims to connect with other nonprofit organizations with similar values and goals as us. We were founded last year by Eunice Lee, executive director, at St. Agnes Academy, where we began our mission. This organization is very important because refugees are a powerful community full of strong people that have found the strength to brave a new world for the hopes of a new start. Over 117 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and it is our duty to help assist and foster their success.

As we continue to grow, we aim to branch out and make this organization larger, better, and more inclusive. We hope to aim beyond Houston and reach communities throughout the United States. Refugees are an underserved and often unheard population who deserve equal opportunity, dignity, and assistance. At STARS, we believe in turning ideas to action, building connections, organizations, and making a tangible difference in the lives of people who need it most. Join us in this journey!
